Cat Cave
Cats are known for their quirky and independent nature, often preferring the simplest of comforts over luxurious options. Despite plush pet beds, cat owners find that their cats are perfectly content with a humble cardboard box.
This preference can be attributed to several factors that align with a cat’s natural instincts and behaviour.
Firstly, cats have a natural attraction to enclosed spaces. In the wild, these spaces provide a sense of security and protection from potential predators. A cardboard box mimics this safe haven, offering cats a snug, confined area where they can feel secure. The walls of a box also give them a sense of privacy, which is essential for their well-being. Additionally, the texture of the cardboard provides a satisfying surface for scratching, further enhancing its appeal.
I purchased this luxurious expensive bed for my cat Roxie and she hasn’t used it once! Instead she finds great comfort on this cardboard box which she never leaves.
Moreover, cats are creatures of comfort and warmth. Cardboard is an insulator which helps retain body heat, making it inviting for a cat to curl up in. The simplicity of a cardboard box also means it can be easily moved to different locations. Cats can follow their instinctual need to explore new territories while still having a familiar resting place. Plus, the affordability of cardboard boxes make them a practical choice for pet owners.
Plush cat beds look great but do not compare to the joy a cardboard box can bring to a cat. The box’s ability to provide a sense of security and warmth makes it a preferred resting spot for cats. So, before investing in an expensive bed, consider offering your cat a cardboard box and watch as they delight in their new, budget-friendly sanctuary.

Any time we have an empty box around house, it is filled with both children and cats within minutes!

I’ve had cats that were “tree” cats and “cave” cats. They were both so awesome in their own ways. They always went for an empty box haha!
